EU Symposium „Family policies matter!”

As a follow-up to the German Caritas campaign 2013 “Family can only be built together” the Initiative for Solidarity run by German Caritas Association organised a symposium at Brussels, 22nd and 23rd of January 2014. It focused on such political strategies which are most effective against poverty and social exclusion of families.

This symposium on family policies aimed to get closer to a comprehensible answer to the question: Which social and family policies effectively improve the situation of families, especially of the most deprived parents and children such as single parents (mostly mothers), families with more than two children and families with a migration background? Four EU member states and their family policies were presented: Denmark,  France, Germany and Slovenia. The aim of the conference was the exchange of good practices and the improvement of own concepts.

The symposium was attended by experts on family policies of social welfare organisations on the European and national level, by politicians and political scientists.
